Special book for the 50th anniversary of Grenoble - Chamrousse Olympics
Publisher: Glénat

In February 1968, the eyes of the world were on the Isère Alps. General de Gaulle declared the X Olympic Winter Games open in Grenoble. A world event! A source of national pride! In addition to the popular and sporting festivities, the public witnessed the architectural, economic and cultural transformation of the city and the department of Isère. In February 2018, a host of events will celebrate 50 years of these historic Games, highlighting their legacy and rekindling their momentum.

The organisation of the Olympic Games by Grenoble in 1968 was a major event that is firmly anchored in the collective memory of Isère and, more broadly, of France.
These X Winter Olympics were not only a prestigious sporting competition and an international gathering, they also helped to transform a city in the middle of the mountains that was booming with population. Access to the mountains was improved, Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs airport and a new railway station were created, public facilities and buildings were built, the Maison de la Culture and the Musée dauphinois were inaugurated on the eve of the Olympic fortnight...

As part of a major exhibition running throughout 2018, Olivier Cogne, Director of the Musée dauphinois (the cultural department of the Département of Isère), has asked a dozen authors - academics, journalists, town planners and specialists in the Olympic Games - to tell the story of this Olympic 'adventure'.
The story of the intention, organisation and staging of the Games is unravelled, explained, analysed and illustrated with a wealth of iconography.
This detailed exploration enables us to gauge the scale of the changes brought about by the Games and to grasp the importance of their legacy, which is still very much present in the city and in people's minds.

Collective work, coordinated by Olivier Cogne, Director of the "Musée Dauphinois".
Foreword by Jean-Pierre Barbier, President of the Département of Isère.
Foreword by Olivier Cogne and Geo Perli, President of the "Conservatoire Observatoire et Laboratoire des Jeux Olympiques de Grenoble" (COLJOG).
